Foreclosure postings down for Austin metro area

It looks like fewer people are losing their homes to foreclosures, but the drop is very small. See the article below.

From Austin Business Journal:

Foreclosure postings filed for the upcoming October auctions in the Austin metro area dropped about 2 percent, compared with the same month last year. According to Addison-based research firm Foreclosure Listing Service Inc., foreclosure postings for the greater Austin metro area totaled 629 for October.

Year to date, foreclosure postings for the area are also down, says George Roddy, president of Foreclosure Listing Service. “For the year thus far, foreclosure posting activity in the metro is down 5 percent with 6,869 postings filed during the first 10 months of this year, compared to 7,218 for the same 10-month period last year.”

According to Roddy, foreclosure postings for the upcoming auctions in October reflected a significant increase in the delinquency of home equity loans. With a 64 percent increase over this time last year, 54 of the postings filed for October’s foreclosure auctions in the Austin metro area involved delinquent home equity loans, he says.

For Travis County, there are 306 foreclosure postings for October, up 2 percent from October 2004, and down 8 percent from September.

Year to date, Travis County foreclosure postings total 3,266, a 7 percent drop from the same period in 2004.

In Williamson County, postings saw no change from last October’s 199 postings, but this is a 4 percent drop from September.

Year to date, Williamson County has had 2,146 postings, down 6 percent from the same period last year.

Hays County foreclosure postings are down 7 percent from October 2004 to 78 postings. This also represents a 4 percent drop from September.
