10-4 on the camp-site being leveled for condos. I lived off S. Congress for 15 yeras and have seen numerous changes (including the gentrification of our neighborhood). I really got to know, both good and bad, most of the homless, prostitutes and down trodden. What does it say of our society that we can throw out the lives and ignore these poor souls as we all do?

The entire block where the homeless camp was has now been levelled. Trees and all. Lofts are being built there on South Congress.

I'm glad that this post made it into your blog. It reminded me quite a bit of a recent new yorker article on "Million Dollar Murray".

Thanks Mandy for your kind words. Sorry about your Dad. Mine passed away in January, so we lost both him and Sylvia's brother that month.

It's funny, I had written that story in early February right after it all happened. I hesitated to post it, not being sure if it was appropriate for our real estate blog, so it remained as a Draft and I didn't think I would post it.

Then I had problems with my blog for the past several weeks and haven't been able to post anything new. Finally the other day I hired someone to troubleshoot it and he discovered some currupt database tables and fixed them. Then he send an email saying "I have everything fixed and tested by posting one of your drafts and it posted fine".

So it got posted by accident and I just decided to leave it. I figure it must have wanted to be read by someone and so I was pleased to see your comment.

Hello. I am a fellow real estate agent, with a different broker here in Austin. Your recent posting about Sylvia's brother really spoke to me. I lost my father in September (the month I got my license) to alcoholism. There were some long, hard years in there. He was with us the entire time, and though sometimes we wished he wasn't with us (when things were really bad), we also miss the good times with him very much. He was a "practicing" alcoholic for many years of my childhood, and then was sober for 18 years. He relapsed 4 years ago and it went really fast from there. Thank you so much for sharing a part of your personal life. It spoke to someone like me today. I'm currently at an open house -- that's a little slow -- reading your blog (which I do often) and crying like a baby! Let Sylvia know that it takes a while, but you can always focus on the good times (and also on the bad times when you're having one of those moments) to get through it. But let the tears come. Thank you very much.
