Steve,
W.C. Fields once said "I don't care if what they print about me in the paper is good or bad so long as they spell my name right!!!" The fact that you are now considered the expert is priceless.
Pat
P.S. I only hope someday I can have a blog as good as yours.

I thought you did a good job is explaining with the limited time what's going on. News reporters are for the most part lazy. They want news stories spoon fed and only what has sizzle, especially with the TV news. I do think as online news becomes more prevalent we will start to see more in-depth news on many topics that before we've only seen the short sound bites on.
The future of news is going to mobile and more grassroots. These blogs are part of that trend because they make news more participatory and we can develop trusted relationships with each other to spread and break down what is really happening.

Does anyone even watch the local news anymore? Probably not anyone under the age of 40?

I am fascinated about this news piece. It's just showing how news media, local or national, are in general very limited in their ability to present the facts. Real Estate news is just one aspect of the news media. Imagine that almost all other news are done in the same way, half baked at best, misleading by large percentage. To some extend, I believe that the printing press has the same problem. They want to tell stories, but they are not willing to make the story to show all the aspects.

So the average folks should be aware that they think they are well informed but the reality is far from it.

No, didn't twist anything, just omitted.
Yes, we have high inventory levels (over 17 months) for homes priced over $400K. It goes up from there.

The point is though, a nice home in good condition priced properly at $450K in Travis Heights, even though sales in Travis Heights (MLS Area 6) are slower than last year, would likely get snapped up quickly. Everything is local. But the general overview is correct.

I think also as real estate people we don't completely understand the purpose and mission of news reporters, which is not necessarily to educate viewers but create stories that people will watch.

Steve-
I don't think they twisted anything you said. The clip was trying to point out the glut of high priced homes, but rather unsuccessfully in my eyes, since they didn't come clean and say it beyond a 2s point about time on the market for highend homes.

I believe Austin does have a problem - too many high priced homes. Hopefully the market will efficently change that.
